The weather continues to be a mix of rain and wind, yet the stands are once again well-filled. But today, the atmosphere is different: The tone is more subdued, the energy of the crowd less exuberant than during basketball. The reason for this lies at the center of attention: the Boccia game.

The players sit quietly and focused on black stools, their eyes fixed on the playing field, which is smaller than for those of average height. It’s a game that is characterized less by quick movements and exciting baskets and more by strategic planning, ball control, patience, teamwork, and millimeter-precise accuracy. Yet it’s precisely this quiet, this tension before each throw, that gives the Boccia game a unique, fascinating appeal.

The highlight of the day came between the singles and doubles matches when two special guests took to the field: The Mayor of Cologne, Ms. Henriette Reker, and the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst. Their presence brought an additional dimension of importance and attention to the event.

In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of the World Dwarf Games, praised the spirit and determination of the athletes, and underlined the role of such events in promoting inclusion and understanding.

But they did not limit themselves to words. In a remarkable gesture of unity, they themselves played a game of Boccia, which aroused both admiration and cheerfulness. Their efforts to try their hand at the complex art of Boccia revealed the human side of these important personalities and reminded all those present that the true spirit of sport lies in joy and commitment, regardless of skill.”

Doch gerade diese Stille, diese Spannung vor jedem Wurf, verleiht dem Boccia-Spiel einen ganz eigenen, faszinierenden Reiz.”

Als Höhepunkt des Tages zwischen den Einzel- und Doppelspielen betraten zwei besondere Gäste das Spielfeld: Die Kölner Oberbürgermeisterin Frau Henriette Reker und der Ministerpräsident von Nordrhein-Westfalen, Hendrik Wüst. Ihre Anwesenheit brachte eine zusätzliche Dimension von Bedeutung und Aufmerksamkeit auf die Veranstaltung.

In ihren Reden betonten sie die Wichtigkeit der World Dwarf Games, lobten den Geist und die Entschlossenheit der Athlet*innen und unterstrichen die Rolle solcher Veranstaltungen bei der Förderung von Inklusion und Verständnis.
